"ARROYO"

A dry channel through which water flows intermittently and irregularly. Kind of like this blog.

My art is an infectious need for me, sometimes a burden but most often a blessing.

This blog is about me and my obsessions, my loves, my need to create and my need of JUNK. I'm addicted to thrift stores, estate sales, flea markets and all roads leading off the beaten track to discover that perfect piece of junk. I recycle old license plates, old shovels, wheelbarrows, saw blades and anything else that's funky using my hand held plasma cutter. I love working with steel, sculpting, photography, watercolor painting, stained glass, and turning everyday utilitarian objects into art. Junked cars ~ I will always veer off the path to search out the beautiful wrecked Arroyo JunKers throughout Arizona, New Mexico and anywhere else the road may lead. When I'm not searching for those JunKers

Road Trip Over!!

Been limping/hobbling around at home since my Road Trip to Santa Fe to help with the Pena Blanca Sunflower Festival.  Sadly just a week before I left I got what I thought was a small sliver of glass in my foot from those D*@# Glass Flowers I make!!! After many attempts to actually find it I went to the Dr. today and find out I may need surgery to get it out!  Not a Happy Camper !  and I don't like hobbling around when I've got stuff to to do and a show coming up.  Oh well, enough whining it could of been worse..... the lady next to me in the Dr. office fell off a ladder and broke both of her heels.... and she's a Pilates teacher!!!!  I guess someone always has it worse off than we do sometimes.
I have hundreds of pictures and it's so hard not to show more and of the artists, so here is just a quick glimpse of the fields.  There were lots of people, lots of artists and lots of Sunflowers.  All in all the "1st Annual" was a big success.  The Sunflowers were so beautiful to see although I only had few minutes to capture these shots as I was so busy manning the t-shirt & sunflower booth the whole time I never really spent enough time in the fields ~ next year!

Here a little video that was posted of parts of the festival......    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thIrVU4oJJY

As my truest followers and friends know.... No Road Trip I take is every complete without paying homage to my Arroyo Junkers & Junky Junk addictions ~ so here are a few of the beauties that I found.

Hi SZQ - sorry to hear about the hobbling and whining - but I can really empathise when these things get in thew way of creating. Sunflowers are always full of joy. And of course I love the rust - what sort of vehicle was the little roadster? Go well. B

Surgery. YUK! But at least you will be able to stop the hobble and whine thing. As you say, much better than crushed heels. The sun flowers must have been spectacular. LOVE your junkers. xoDonna

You found some great treasure to photograph. Or did you bring all that home?!?

Every time I 'work' a festival, I find that I don't take part on the other side of the table. Hopefully you will next year because those fields look way too pretty to miss skipping through.

And Ouch! I sure hope your foot heals QUICKly and completely!

BS ~ I certainly know you feel my pain... but really it's nothing like what you went thru! No idea what that "roadster is".
LadyD - Yeah that hobbling thing is worse than the glass!
BO ~ If I could of gotten a few treasure on the plane I would certainly grabbed a few.
LT ~ You and me both would have those gas pumps in our livingroom! If only it was still about 38cents a gallon!!

Hope you are enjoying the last few days of summer!

In Germany the weather is crisp, the sky is blue, and the leaves are starting to turn. I'm looking forward to Autumn!

Takin' the back road from Greer to Morenci was gorgeous. This was waiting at the end.
