"ARROYO"

A dry channel through which water flows intermittently and irregularly. Kind of like this blog.

My art is an infectious need for me, sometimes a burden but most often a blessing.

This blog is about me and my obsessions, my loves, my need to create and my need of JUNK. I'm addicted to thrift stores, estate sales, flea markets and all roads leading off the beaten track to discover that perfect piece of junk. I recycle old license plates, old shovels, wheelbarrows, saw blades and anything else that's funky using my hand held plasma cutter. I love working with steel, sculpting, photography, watercolor painting, stained glass, and turning everyday utilitarian objects into art. Junked cars ~ I will always veer off the path to search out the beautiful wrecked Arroyo JunKers throughout Arizona, New Mexico and anywhere else the road may lead. When I'm not searching for those JunKers

It's been so long since I've had time for my blog since being in Santa Fe - I've been touring the countryside  and having a great time blacksmithing.  This stuff is certainly labor intensive.  May be too much for an old gal like me, but I'll walk away with a new found appreciation for the time and energy it takes to be a blacksmith and a few tricks I can use at home.  Here's a couple of beautiful arroyo junkers I've seen on my travels ~ more to come later.

HeADed to MoM & Jorge's

Well this will be interesting ~ I'll be away from home until June 1st.  Hubby and I in 26 years have never been apart more than a week!  Here are just some pics of the road to Mom's and some of her neighbors that we visit.  Many a film has been made on the road to her house ~ the most recent was Crazy Heart with Jeff Bridges, in fact I couldn't leave one day cuz they were filming the accident he had in his truck (if you saw the Movie).  It's a popular spot since there is only beautiful landscape - no telephone lines, no cars, no houses, just beauty.

Steel Ocotillo

This weekend I saw an Ocotillo in the neighborhood and thought "Hey, why don't I have one!".  So I got busy and created my own - it's about 8 ft tall.  Only difference is mine requires no water or maintenance.  I'll be adding a hummingbird, but since I'm headed to Santa Fe for a month on Thurs I won't be able to finish it.  I'll be busy there learning and creating some new stuff.  My blog may suffer because of it.... but I shall return with a new found knowledge of blacksmithing.

Takin' the back road from Greer to Morenci was gorgeous. This was waiting at the end.
