"ARROYO"

A dry channel through which water flows intermittently and irregularly. Kind of like this blog.

My art is an infectious need for me, sometimes a burden but most often a blessing.

This blog is about me and my obsessions, my loves, my need to create and my need of JUNK. I'm addicted to thrift stores, estate sales, flea markets and all roads leading off the beaten track to discover that perfect piece of junk. I recycle old license plates, old shovels, wheelbarrows, saw blades and anything else that's funky using my hand held plasma cutter. I love working with steel, sculpting, photography, watercolor painting, stained glass, and turning everyday utilitarian objects into art. Junked cars ~ I will always veer off the path to search out the beautiful wrecked Arroyo JunKers throughout Arizona, New Mexico and anywhere else the road may lead. When I'm not searching for those JunKers

Butterflies headed home

I've been working steadily on the commissioned order from the last show; 4 license plate butterflies, 1 baby license plate butterfly & 1 cat garden marker for her little departed kitty.  This was the first time a client brought their own plates in for me to create from.  I'll be honest it made me a little nervous, cuz if I mess it up I can't really replace it ~ makes me anxious!  No one is the wiser if I mess up my own and just don't sell them.   She had her plates from various state... New Hampshire to Texas to Arizona.

They flew away this morning to their new home.... never to be seen again ~ sweet sorrow.

A butterfly lights beside us
Like a sunbeam, and for a
Brief moment, it’s glory and
Beauty belong to our world.
But, then it flies on again
And although we wish it could
Have stayed, we feel blessed
To have seen it.

ALL so gorgeous! They will be well loved. I know what you mean about the sweet sorrow as you allow your art to leave. As artists we have to get 'our fill' of a new piece before we can easily let it go. Like letting our children go free - out into the world. Beautiful work. xoDonna

SZQ - well done you to get commissions even though they can cause a little stress. Love the header to the blog - how long has it been there I can only think it is newish or my mind is just getting soggy. Go well and create well. B

Oh they are Amazing! I know the recipients will be delighted with them. But I can totally relate to the anxiety level of working with a Client's own supplies versus your own... as a Fabric Artist I have had Clients ask to incorporate some of their own Vintage Fabric Collection or Trims to their pieces and it makes me anxious too.

Alas, I didn't make it back out the Gardens for the Dia de los Muertos Procession since I was bedside at Phoenix Children's Hospital with the G-Son for almost 3 days that particular weekend. He's doing much better and has been released... and the Princess was sad that all our Plans had to be cancelled that she and I had carefully calendared... she was really missing her Brother and I while we were in the Hospital though and anxious about the situation so she was excited when we got to come Home finally and forgot all about what we'd had to pass on doing! Health is after all one of the best Gifts in Life!
