"ARROYO"

A dry channel through which water flows intermittently and irregularly. Kind of like this blog.

My art is an infectious need for me, sometimes a burden but most often a blessing.

This blog is about me and my obsessions, my loves, my need to create and my need of JUNK. I'm addicted to thrift stores, estate sales, flea markets and all roads leading off the beaten track to discover that perfect piece of junk. I recycle old license plates, old shovels, wheelbarrows, saw blades and anything else that's funky using my hand held plasma cutter. I love working with steel, sculpting, photography, watercolor painting, stained glass, and turning everyday utilitarian objects into art. Junked cars ~ I will always veer off the path to search out the beautiful wrecked Arroyo JunKers throughout Arizona, New Mexico and anywhere else the road may lead. When I'm not searching for those JunKers

Shovel Art #5 and #6

I've said it before and I'll keep saying it........
I LOVE SHOVELS!
I loved resurrecting these and transforming them into something so different than what it was originally designed for.  I started turning them and using the entire handle for exactly that .... A handle, a hanger.  You can hang your jackets, your bridles, your garden tools or whatever you feel like on them.  It's hard to see and photograph, but hopefully you can see the horseshoes used as the hook and its got a bit of rusting to do yet....but you get the gest of it.
And then.... my favorite  "The Scoop Shovel"...  it's so much larger than the average shovel blade and so much easier to get a large drawing on.  It stands out so much better - don't ya think? In anticipation of Spring... here come the butterflies.  You'll notice I do a lot of those.

I hope you all had a lovely Valentine's Day and someone made you feel special - Cuz You Are Special!  I had a wonderful dinner out with my Valentine and he bought me the cutest plant - it has pink heart shaped leaves!  I love it.
Have an Awesome Week  and Get Out There and
Create Beauty
in whatever Fashion that is to YOU!

Your Art is beyond fabulous! I can't wait to see some of it in person one day. I've been trying to convince The Man to Create some wonderful Yard Art out of Salvage, he's so Talented and a Gifted Carpenter... and I've got plenty of ideas. *Winks* There's a new Brass Armadillo opening next month on our side of Town and I want to rent a Booth there with a Garden Room Vibe to it and I can decorate to my Heart's content without dragging anything new Home... in fact, having a means to ease some of the excess Treasures out of this Old House and into new Homes where they will be further Loved and appreciated. Downsizing is so hard otherwise and the Thrill of the Hunt has to be stifled when you reach saturation point at Home unless you have another way of sharing the Found Treasures. *Winks*

I Hope your Valentine's Day was extraordinary! The Besties and I are having Girl's Day Out doing the Melrose Crawl and seeking out a Special Treasure to spend my Valentine's $$$ upon. I'm just being a whole lot more selective about what comes in and for every thing that makes an entrance, several more have to make an exit now. *LOL* That's the 2012 Rule!!!

SZQ - I can always rely on you for an uplift of spirits. Where else in the world can I go to see rust, the recycled and beauty created from the ordinary. Love the silhouette and negative space of the shovel 'sculptures'. Go well and collect and create well. B

OMG you had me laughing so hard at your throw down comment that I almost spilled my drink on the keyboard! *LOL* Now I simply MUST check out that Chandler Antique Mercantile Flea Market... being from Westside I have never attended or heard of it until now... Good Lord you're contributing to my delinquency! *winks* The Event at the Sweet was pure madness... as the popularity soars it gets a little intimidating to attend, but I'm so addicted to the experience and I longed for something like that in the Valley for SOOOOOO long that I can't resist wanting to go and trying not to get too freaked out by the mobs it generates. Its no wonder the Gals have to buy like crazy because that place gets picked bare within hours and has to be restocked constantly to last the 4 days! If you haven't been it is definitely worth seeing... Shopping pandamonium of Reality TV proportions! *winks... I'm always entertained & amused by the possibility of shopping Throw Downs so long as I'm not in the mix of it! Smiles* I'm just not going to the dirt at my age... I might break a hip?! *Winks* But I might consider it for one of your Shovels... *LOL*
