"ARROYO"

A dry channel through which water flows intermittently and irregularly. Kind of like this blog.

My art is an infectious need for me, sometimes a burden but most often a blessing.

This blog is about me and my obsessions, my loves, my need to create and my need of JUNK. I'm addicted to thrift stores, estate sales, flea markets and all roads leading off the beaten track to discover that perfect piece of junk. I recycle old license plates, old shovels, wheelbarrows, saw blades and anything else that's funky using my hand held plasma cutter. I love working with steel, sculpting, photography, watercolor painting, stained glass, and turning everyday utilitarian objects into art. Junked cars ~ I will always veer off the path to search out the beautiful wrecked Arroyo JunKers throughout Arizona, New Mexico and anywhere else the road may lead. When I'm not searching for those JunKers

Deer Skull (Finished) & River Otters

Well I hope everyone had a fun and relaxing 3 day weekend.  I worked a lot on my deer skull, but also spent time by the pool with our local river otters, going to movies and just kicking back. I'm never able to swim by myself as friends are always here requiring a dip!

I finished up the deer skull (deer skull) and I think it turned out pretty good, being that it is really my first 3D type of sculpture.  It measures about 3ft across and 2ft high.  I'd still like to bend some of the antlers a little, but for now I'll sit back and look at it for a while.  We artist can pick apart our creations far too much.  I'm trying to be better about that self defeating act.

SZQ- great work - I think it has turned out really well - a big piece and the way you have cut out and textured the skull piece is very creative as is the texture of the reo steel that you have polished at the ends. Must say I had a real laugh with the whole leaping dog thing - I was actually looking for otters for a while - looks like they had a lot of fun. B

Dear Soo-zee-this is just amazing! Seriously. It has grace and elegance and...is sheer poetry. I don't think I ever told you but...I have an innate appreciation for sculpture. Being Indian and having grown up in S. Africa...Your piece reminds me of the classical beauty of Chola Bronzes (from Southern India) but...also a little African too. wherever did you learn how to create these??? Oh! I just LOVE it!

Hey...Soo-zee. Can I interview you? this year I am doing a series of interview with amazing, kick-ass, creative, fearless women and...you fit the bill! It wouldn't be anytime soon-just sometime this year! Just think about it and let me know! xxx
Oh! I am also going to interview another amazing lady that you may be interested in. She is a wood carver from S. Africa and her work is over the top beautiful too. Just google Art Propelled...her name is Robyn.

Takin' the back road from Greer to Morenci was gorgeous. This was waiting at the end.
