"ARROYO"

A dry channel through which water flows intermittently and irregularly. Kind of like this blog.

My art is an infectious need for me, sometimes a burden but most often a blessing.

This blog is about me and my obsessions, my loves, my need to create and my need of JUNK. I'm addicted to thrift stores, estate sales, flea markets and all roads leading off the beaten track to discover that perfect piece of junk. I recycle old license plates, old shovels, wheelbarrows, saw blades and anything else that's funky using my hand held plasma cutter. I love working with steel, sculpting, photography, watercolor painting, stained glass, and turning everyday utilitarian objects into art. Junked cars ~ I will always veer off the path to search out the beautiful wrecked Arroyo JunKers throughout Arizona, New Mexico and anywhere else the road may lead. When I'm not searching for those JunKers

Eclectic Monkey Emporium

My friend Glenn (who more than supports my JUNK habit by selling me lots of fun and crazy items) runs the "Eclectic Monkey Emporium" in downtown Mesa, AZ.  I stopped by the other day to see what was new and had my name on it.... and man was I blown away!  He's is in the process of painting his store and it is over the top awesome.  It's basically made to look like it's melting in the Arizona Sun.  I think he's accomplished that vision for sure! It's just amazing what you can do with a flat wall and basically 4 colors of paint.  It's still a work in progress so as soon as it is all complete I'll update and even show you some of the cool collectibles he's got in the shop..... I keep pressing him to let me buy some that are behind the counter, but so far it's a no go.  I will however endeavor to wear him down!!!!

What a great store front! I think in my town this would have to go through a hundred committees and then wouldn't be allowed! What a shame. Looks like what that Spanish Artist did in Barcelona! Is the inside as imaginative?

Jerry-the inside is always evolving. It does have a very unique wall treatment. Very eclectic.

SZQ - that is one really cool paint job - crazy - but also fits with the summer you have had. It made me smile a lot - good to see people being creative on that scale. Go well and happy hunting. B

my goodness! that is REALLY amazing!! and the most amazing thing about it are the shadows he created by the sides of the window and the door looks like it really has eaves!! wow!! and i thought, it was a real door, like you can walk into the shop thru that door!! i was just figuring out how he managed to mold the door into that funny shape only to discover that it's just shading!! COOL!!!

Oh God I LOVE the paint job, what a Creative Idea and yes, it is effective. I've felt like I'm melting all week... and I only wish Mesa weren't so far, I'd Love to check his Shop out! Will have to get the Gals together and do a Road Trip to Mesa one day now...
