"ARROYO"

A dry channel through which water flows intermittently and irregularly. Kind of like this blog.

My art is an infectious need for me, sometimes a burden but most often a blessing.

This blog is about me and my obsessions, my loves, my need to create and my need of JUNK. I'm addicted to thrift stores, estate sales, flea markets and all roads leading off the beaten track to discover that perfect piece of junk. I recycle old license plates, old shovels, wheelbarrows, saw blades and anything else that's funky using my hand held plasma cutter. I love working with steel, sculpting, photography, watercolor painting, stained glass, and turning everyday utilitarian objects into art. Junked cars ~ I will always veer off the path to search out the beautiful wrecked Arroyo JunKers throughout Arizona, New Mexico and anywhere else the road may lead. When I'm not searching for those JunKers

Its Rainin Sparks and Butterflies

I know you think I've been sitting around eating bonbon's ~ you'd be wrong...... it was Triple Ginger Snaps from Trader Jo's!...  my favorite!

In between those little gems I have been getting busy ~ I've got two shows coming up and two vacations and I'm finding it hard to find time to create and deal with the 113 degrees here.  As you know I love METAL ART!!! I love creating Butterflies with various recycled items, so I'm working on more garden art, which I'm hoping will be a big hit at the Phx. Botanical Gardens Annual Fall Plant Sale coming up.  I always have a booth there in Oct.  If you're in the Phx area come on down ~ I've got some goodies I'd like to show you.
Metal Art you fool ~ what did you think!

Everything I do is by hand - hand drawn, hand cut & hand welded.  It's time consuming, but I love it.  It starts with a big piece of steel, a few markers.
Here's a little video of me cutting out some butterflies just to show you what it's like.
Don't cha wish your girlfriend was HOT like me!!!
Don't CHA!
I'll bet she doesn't have an outfit like mine either!!  YEE HAW

Here's what they look like after I've welded the wings onto old Railroad spikes.  Next step will be the rod they will stand on and the rusting and/or painting stage.
Here's one in the early stages of RUSTING.  It's got a ways to go.
I'm off on my Santa Fe Vacation this Friday - Have A Great WEEK!

Amazing work, looks like you where able to power through the 113 degree heat. OMG the freeze dried fruit at trader joes is the best, ill have to try the ginger snaps though.

I usually dont like it when blogs automatically play music, but what a great selection. I reloaded the page just to see what came up next. I'm off to download some tunes. Thanks!

This is amazing. It is fabulous to see how you begin the project, then bring it all the way to the end.
Thank you,
Anne

SZQ - had to laugh at your throw away lines - but man it has been hot over your way - can understand the reluctance to get outside and cut metal. Great vid - would have liked to see the work as you saw it - hmm!! can't have everything I guess. looks like a good heap of stock - hope the sales go well. B
