"ARROYO"

A dry channel through which water flows intermittently and irregularly. Kind of like this blog.

My art is an infectious need for me, sometimes a burden but most often a blessing.

This blog is about me and my obsessions, my loves, my need to create and my need of JUNK. I'm addicted to thrift stores, estate sales, flea markets and all roads leading off the beaten track to discover that perfect piece of junk. I recycle old license plates, old shovels, wheelbarrows, saw blades and anything else that's funky using my hand held plasma cutter. I love working with steel, sculpting, photography, watercolor painting, stained glass, and turning everyday utilitarian objects into art. Junked cars ~ I will always veer off the path to search out the beautiful wrecked Arroyo JunKers throughout Arizona, New Mexico and anywhere else the road may lead. When I'm not searching for those JunKers

Lace Wrapped Garden Rocks

Texture and Design
~
It's everywhere
~
It's what I surround myself with
~
It's something I can never get enough of
I saw a lovely idea where someone who could actually crochet did so over Rocks.  Well, I can't crochet but I loved the look it gave the rocks and it reminded me of the way I cut out steel.  As always I was drawn to the contrast of these delicate and hard surfaces, just like my shovel art.

I had some old crocheted doilies laying around and what better way to use them than to wrap them around rocks.  The thrifts stores are loaded with them so they are always available.  I've got at least 20 more to make and then I'll place them in the garden ~ they'll make such a beautiful contrast amongst the flowers.
Did you know that the doilies make the most beautiful patterns when you spray paint over them onto something else.  I use them quite often in my Art.

Take something OLD and make it NEW again

Chris ~ if you add your email address to your profile I'll be able to respond to you otherwise it goes to "no reply" email. I've never had someone have issues with joining my site so perhaps it's on your end. Thanks for stopping by.

SZQ - what a wild idea - this post made me smile a lot - covering rocks with doilies - puts a whole new angle on how rocks are tied with rope in Japan to mean don't go down this path. I wonder what a doilie clad rock in a garden might mean. Go well. B

Rocks covered in crochet is proof that something can grow on you because when I first saw the idea I thought it was anything but wonderful where as now I think they look wonderful. A touch of elegance on the great outdoors. I like how you wrapped doilies around the rocks, what do they look like on the back? Did you stitch them into place?
